How Do You Structure Your Reselling Responsibilities?

Hey guys and gals! How are your businesses doing these days? As 2025 slides into Q2, we’re back up and running with a handful of sales each day. It’s slow growth over here after taking a bit of a hiatus last year, but sales are picking up and at this time, I’m more comfortable than ever before in how we’re running it. Let’s talk about those responsibilities and how they’re being managed. Woo!

Go From Overwhelming to Efficient Reselling

For years, I kept him-hauling back and forth about which ways of doing things were best, watching too many click-baity videos and reading non-helpful information of how to run an ebay store (from stores I couldn’t even find that existed!) Cray.

At this point, I’m working on building my journey with trusting my gut and knowing that I have enough of a reseller rolodex to at least have down the basics. I pick, I thrift, I source and I list. I try to include the fun parts with the not so fun parts but don’t let either pile up too heavily so I don’t get frustrated or bored.

Once you’re able to do the basics efficiently, the rest will follow with ease. Here are some eBay reselling tips that have helped me streamline my business:

I like to make sure I have an accessible work station, a clean and kept place to picture, and a decluttered workspace to list. As we plan to move this year, I’m having a bit of anxiety about how I currently have my inventory situated. So, I’ve used the hiatus as a leaping stone to give old items a new chance with new photos and making sure I sort through unworthy items to clear up some space.

What am I deeming unworthy at this point you may be asking??

  1. Anything with a flaw or stain (with the exception of vintage items since they still are sellable with a bit of wear)
  2. Anything that doesn’t have a size tag
  3. Anything that I can’t tell the gender of (some garments shrink and therefore are hard to determine)
  4. Anything that is excessively dirty, hairy, fur-filled or smelly. (I get inventory from various places these days, so I often come into items that sadly cannot be saved without using an excessive amount of my time)
  5. Any shoes that don’t come as a pair, or hard goods that have more than one broken piece.
  6. Any super large sets of dishes or extra large breakable goods (I’ll make an effort to sell these locally before donating after a set amount of time)
  7. Any hard to test electronics that are time-consuming (I will typically take less for the sale and just sell as-is)

You may be wondering why I’ve gotten so strict! But I wouldn’t call it that. I’ve simply gotten better at distinguishing which items will sit too long and which items should be given a second chance. And, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve also realized that my time is seriously more important than anything else and that that in itself should be 100% taken into consideration when making these decisions.

Balancing Responsibilities and Enjoying the Process

The responsibilities that come with being a reseller are truly endless at times. Actually, at all times. We have to always be online, and if not, we have a flood of messages or notifications when we do come back on. Even when we’re on vacation, our ebay store may not be. Even when we are feeling under the weather, the post office is still open for shipping. It can get overwhelming at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The further down the reseller road I get, the more I feel internally that this is a true part of my path. Not only am I having fun doing this job, but I also get to take pleasure in helping others clean out their spaces and feel less stress. Not only do I get to find treasures along the way but I also get to enjoy my own schedule and remain flexible to do other things I love most. (Like hiking! Check out RD’s sister site if you’re interested in learning out where!)

Once I realized that I can put what I want to do first, but also treat this baby as my business, (correct, not the other way around), I knew that it could be something that would be sustainable for years or even decades to come.

Here are the ebay reselling tips and responsibilities that I complete on a daily basis for my reselling business:

  1. Intentionally make space for listing. At some point in the day, no matter what, at least 1 new listing. If I’m low on new listings, I end and relist 25-50 items from my oldest ones. I stopped caring about hitting a specific number each day of listings after my space started becoming overwhelming with too much inventory. It’s been refreshing to know that when I want to be done, I can be done. No pressure = less stress.
  2. Making time to take a handful of pictures. Even if it’s just 5 pictures a day, there will be other days I can squeeze in 30. Gradual progress is the key to consistency peeps.
  3. Keeping my space clear to ship and pack. This can be game changing because having to move 20 things around to list one item can be mentally and physically draining. Keep it simple.
  4. Shipping as soon as I’m able and taking it to the post office right away. I no longer rely on pickups since there’s been too many times I had late shipments because I’d expect them to pick up packages when they didn’t. Moral of the story, if you want something done right, do it yourself!
  5. Keeping my devices charged and ready at all times. Just in case I have time to list a little extra or need to send offers in my spare time, they are there and available to respond to messages or complaints. By being aware of this, I can stay up on my customer service and follow up with buyers to thank them for their business.

Speaking of which, I’ve re-incorporated sending thank you cards and ribbon with my packages. I’ve also re-incorporated messaging buyers and thanking them right away. I use names when possible and try to be personable as I’m able to across the internet. These few things alone have already awarded many new reviews that I’m sure wouldn’t have been possible were I to slack on doing those again. (Which I definitely did when things got overwhelming).

So what do you agree with? Have you amped up one of these responsibilities or maybe shifted down in some? Let me hear about it in the comment section below or on our Facebook page. Tell us your biggest change in your business for a chance to win a $10 Amazon digital gift card!
