Hey there fellow resellers! Today, we’re diving into a topic that’s close to our hearts: the art of cleaning and preparing resell items for their new homes. As you might already know, here at Rooted Drawers, we’ve been on quite the journey when it comes to this aspect of our business. So grab a cup of tea, get cozy, (it’s almost that time of year, yay!) and let’s chat about how our approach has evolved over time.

The Meticulous Era: Labor of Love

Remember the days when we meticulously laundered, steamed, and deep cleaned every item that crossed our path? Oh, how we poured our heart and soul into ensuring that each treasure was spotless and ready to shine. It was a labor of love, no doubt. But as time went on and our inventory grew, we found ourselves facing a dilemma: quantity versus quality.

Pivoting Towards “As Is”: A Silver Lining Decision

Because of this newly developed dilemma, we realized that we had to pivot our strategy if we wanted to continue growing. We decided to embrace the “as is” sale. This choice wasn’t made lightly, mind you. We knew that it meant bidding farewell to some extra revenue we could have gained from those painstaking cleaning sessions. But like any decision, it had its silver lining.

Efficiency Unleashed: Redirecting Time and Energy

By focusing on selling items “as is,” we gained efficiency. We could redirect the time and energy we used to spend on cleaning towards other crucial aspects of our business. Growing, innovating, and connecting with you, our wonderful community, became our top priorities. And let’s not forget the seamless flow of products – it’s like a symphony of thrifted finds finding their forever homes!

As we started to grow our group of new contacts, additional thrift stores, wholesalers and new cleanout sessions with neighbors, we discovered that this is what works best for our business model and that to keep forging ahead, this is the turn we’d have to make.

Diverse Paths, Shared Charm

Now, we’re not saying that our path is the only path. Just like in a thrift store where you can find a diverse range of items, each reseller’s journey is as unique as the pieces they sell. Some of our fellow reselling friends might opt for the full-on spa treatment for their items, and that’s absolutely awesome. However, it’s just not for us anymore.

Although, we still continue to shoot for including that certain charm with every purchase knowing that it is not just a transaction, but a shared experience of care and dedication. Providing a 5+ star experience every single time has been our goal from Day 1.

After nearly 15,000 packages sent, we still feel the same.
