With any adventure, be it a business of selling/reselling, or even something more personal, there’s usually some sort of challenge involved. This was a challenge that I thought was simply just another that fell into that personal category. Well, I was wrong!
Read on to find out how I followed these 5 simple steps and have now sold over 2,000 items on just Poshmark. You don’t always need a team of people to get the job done, you just have to put the work in. I am a one woman run business and for the foreseeable future will continue to be as such. Full-time reselling is not impossible, but it does take some learning along the way.
So, let’s get to it, shall we?!
*A quick shout out to my readers and friends who follow along with my journey! Thank you so much for your support day in and day out as it is most genuinely appreciated. I apologize greatly for the lack of posting last week. I’ve had some technical difficulties as of late and like always, am still learning new ways to improve the quality and content on my site to be the most beneficial. Thank you so kindly for your patience and I hope that you will enjoy reading below! Have a beautiful day! -Shelby

My Super Simple Selling Tips!
Wake Up and Be Awesome.
This is something I saw in passing actually on a random sign the other day. It inspired me, so I impulsively bought it (something I rarely do being my frugal self), and hung it in my workspace immediately.
When you work for yourself, waking up with an alarm clock, (at all), can be hard to get used to. Check out this article and scroll down to “My Latest Gadgets,” to learn about how the one I found on Amazon has really changed my wake up routine.
It’s hard to not catch yourself lollygagging around, putting off things on your to-do list. However, you have to hold yourself accountable and make everyday a work day. You’re all you’ve got!
Put the work in, it’s just as simple as that. Plan to wake up everyday and have a set schedule already in motion. I like to use the app “To-Do,” previously “Wunderlist,” to jot down things I like to be sure to get done that day or the next at the latest.
Crossing things off is something that brings joy to my life, and I’m sure many of you may happen to feel the same. So instead, I will make a physical list some days. Then, I try at least to get almost all of those tasks done.
If they’re bigger tasks, I try to just stick to a simple list of 3, so that I don’t get too disheartened if I happen to not get all of them finished.
Get the Hard Stuff Done First.
A lot of times it’s really easy to get distracted and start spending the first few hours letting time slip by. Then by mid-day, you’ve got to realizing that now, you have to squish all of that work you had planned into an even smaller portion of the day than before. This won’t happen if you get the hard tasks out of the way first thing.
I know it sounds sort of backwards, to start your day with something you don’t like. But trust me, it’ll be worth it when you’re finished and have the whole day still ahead of you. This is how great things get accomplished.
Try to start every day with the thing you dislike most. Trust me, the rest of the day will flow much more smoothly, and it’ll be more productive, too. Especially since that task you don’t particularly enjoy isn’t bouncing around still in the back of your mind.
Use Your Own Judgement to Create Your Best Schedule.
Listen, if you’re working for yourself, this is a huge benefit you’ve already got. Many peeps don’t have this luxury to choose when to do what in the day. They have a boss telling them when they need to have their to-do list finished by, and that’s all there is to it.
Take advantage of the best times of your day that you have available, and use those hours wisely.
For me, I like to start with shipping. (Again, this is just my opinion, so as the title states, use your best judgement!) I have read several other blogs and listened to Youtubers say that shipping should be the last item on your to-do list.
This is because it is said that you should use your freshest hours to do your most creative work. Not some mundane task that you can do on autopilot.
However, I’ve found that every time I follow this regimen, it never quite works out. I’m always left rushing at the end of the day to make sure I get to the post office on time. Of course, we all know that rushing never accounts for anything good in a situation. This is most often when mistakes can happen, and sending a buyer the wrong package is most certainly, not on my to-do list.
Think Outside the Box, or, The Platform Rather.
This is something that was a bit complicated for me in the beginning, hence my earlier post titled, “No Social, No Problem.” Trying to be successful on the internet, without having a plethora of social media, was like trying to make toast without a toaster.
Everyone that I’ve seen online that has these big reselling businesses, all have oodles of social media on their resume. I mean oodles upon oodles. The freedom I find from not always wasting hours scrolling through unnecessary reading material, was not something I was willing to give up.
I like to spend the time I previously used for scrolling, to relax and read novels with my husband. Or, perhaps reading articles regarding ways to improve my business, such as this one.
So when I say “think outside the platform,” I simply mean to creatively find other ways that benefit you and your business, without sacrificing the values you hold true to. Instead of branching out and spreading myself too thin by investing time in more social media, I just decided to use what I’ve already got.
Having already created a Pinterest account years prior to my business ventures, I simply converted that to a business account rather than a personal one. This helped because I can now use it to create ads, find my audience, and check on my analytics.
Another great tip that I would consider the easiest, is to simply ask your friends and family if you can share to their accounts. Or, ask if they could promote your business on their pages now and then.
Perhaps you could exchange this for a simple task in return, it’s always kind to repay the favor.
Don’t Skimp on Nights and Weekends.
This is a particularly easy one to not stick to. (Especially if the whether is oh so perfect and it seems like a perfect time to be hiking)!
If you’re looking to create a full-time career out of this, you have to be ready and willing to work, every single day. A lot of times we forget that the internet is always on.
Reselling is especially unique in the sense that you can, as they say, “make money in your sleep.” Selling online is something that you can do 24/7/365. This includes 104 (weekend days, that’s almost 1/3 of the whole year)!
Many times, these may get overlooked, and can potentially be costing you a whole whopping pile of dollar dollar bills, y’all. This is something that past generations never had the opportunity for, and we all need to be getting full use of that.
Once again, putting the work in on these extra days that many others may not include in their work schedules, can be what puts you above the rest of the competition, and keeps your business growing. And that’s quite simply what we all want, isn’t it?
Now, get to work my fellow resellers and friends! Build that empire and be a boss!
Thank You!
