What are Some eBay Reselling Tips to Remember Before Listing?

Know Your Worth. When it comes to any item that you’re planning to sell, you need to first know its worth. Determining the correct price point and availability of other items such as yours, can make or break a potential sale. Make sure you price it accordingly and aren’t rushing through the process.

Do Your Research. Similar to the tip above, be sure to always do your research. You want to be knowledgeable about your product and be certain there are no words you cannot use, or are listing anything that may be prohibited. (Browse the Prohibited and Restricted list here).

Stay Away from VERO! This is super important. If you’re new to selling on Ebay, you have may not yet heard of the VERO list. This list was created by Ebay to respect property owners’ rights. (Click here to read now).

Be Fair. As with any platform, you want to be making sure to price your items fairly. No one enjoys being price gouged, and it is certainly not professional. Keep it real and you’ll go further.

What About During the Listing Process?

Use your drafts! Take advantage of the fact that Ebay allows you to keep drafts in your back pocket. Trust me, they’ll come in handy when you’re having a lazy day!

Mix it Up! Always try to mix up your style of listings between the Buy It Now option, and using Auctions. Doing so will help keep your store more active and balanced on those days that you may not be listing as much.

Be Consistent! Consistency is key in nearly everything in life and when it come to eBay reselling tips, and this especially goes for your business plan. Stay active in your store and over time you will see a great improvement in your sales.

List Daily! Be sure to always list new items every single day and the Ebay algorithm will thank you.

eBay Reselling Tips Continued

Provide Measurements. When you cover all your bases, you are less likely to make little mistakes. By providing measurements upfront, this makes it easier for the buyer to be more sure of a purchase, while also covering your behind if they want to open up a return case based on fit.

Take Clear and Accurate Photos. By taking really good pictures the first time around, you’ll less likely have to go back in to adjust or rephotograph anything that may not be up to par. I do not recommend using stock photos as this may show your buyer that you are unsure of your item or it may seem as though you’re trying to hide something. Keep in good faith and just use the pictures you’ve taken yourself.

Double and Triple Check Categories! This is something that I pull once again from personal experience. Make sure you are double checking every box you check, and every category you click on. If you rush through a listing and choose something incorrect, it can make for an awful big headache when the buyer receives an incorrect item and you have to go through the several day return process. Take your time and do it right in square one.

What are Some Ways to Improve my Listing Title?

Maximize Exposure. You can do this by utilizing the first three words in your title to your best advantage. These 3 words are most important and should include the top three words you feel is most necessary in finding your item the quickest. This is one of my favorite Ebay reselling tips.

Example: Adidas Black Windbreaker

Example of 3 Unnecessary Words: Wow, LOOK Clothing!

Don’t Worry About those If’s, An’s or But’s. These are also unnecessary to add into your title. Don’t use up valuable character space by adding words that aren’t adding value.

No Need to Bother with Punctuation. Adding excessive asterisks or punctuation will only clog up your title because it isn’t needed for search.

DO Use Correct Spelling. If you are unsure of how a particular brand or item is spelled, it is best to do a quick Google search and be 100% certain. Incorrect spelling will look unprofessional and lazy.

Don’t Include Flashy Words. Words such as Look, Wow, Oh My, Amazing, etc., are of no use to the search and are words that buyers will not be considering when trying to find your item.

How Can I Improve on Shipping?

Consider Free Returns. This is your personal choice, but I suggest when starting out that you offer Free 30 Day Returns. Doing so will increase your chance of making the sale, or receiving an offer. Buyers like to have the comfort in knowing that they always have another option if something doesn’t work out.

Offer Free Shipping. This goes alongside the tip above. Offering free shipping is something that you can decide to add based on your item, or if you are still a newer seller. (Check out my recent post on How to Start Selling on Ebay). This will entice buyers to choose your item over the next one on the page, and that can be super beneficial once you get a lot of items in your store.

Donate! Get behind a good cause and choose a foundation that’s right for you. I started donating 10% to the NRDC (National Resources Defense Council) about 2 months ago, and have seen a slight uptick in sales. It may not always go that way, and you want to be sure to do it for the right reasons. However, if you can benefit your store growth, along with a good foundation, I consider that a win-win. (Check out Rooted Drawers Merch here that also donates 10% to my foundation of choice).

What are Some More Ways to Promote More Sales?

Run Promotions. This is probably the easiest of these Ebay selling tips. You can run promotions for a certain period of time, or indefinitely. I personally like to switch it up now and then between percentage off sales, or dollar off sales. Try a couple out to see what works best for you.

Use the Tools Ebay Provides. By this I am simply referring to Promoted Listings. You can choose what percentage you would like to sponsor your item with, and by doing so, Ebay will reward you by showing your item higher up on a search page. The only downfall to this method is that you will be paying a small extra fee to Ebay. However, I find that using even only 1% can make a difference in sales. Personally, I find this being worth the small investment.

How Can I Become Better at Customer Service?

Answer promptly! Replying to your potential customers, or customers who have already purchased an item, is essential. Stay up to date on your comments, questions, and messages. Your attention to customer service will pay off.

Thank Your Buyers! This is an easy one! Whenever you make a sale, just give a quick click on the Contact Buyer button, and write your new business buddy a little thanks for shopping with you. (Make this easier on yourself by creating a template or note in an app to save time).

Don’t Forget to Leave Feedback! A lot of times in the beginning, I’d forget to leave feedback right away. This was no good because just like you, buyers are also expecting to be rated and may be looking forward to it. I suggest staying personal and writing your own, but perhaps turning on the automatic button to be sure that you don’t accidentally forget about anyone!

Try NOT to Cancel. This one can be tricky sometimes, even if you’re not to blame. Cancelling an order puts a strike against your account, and that will not help propel you into the Ebay algorithm world. Make sure if you are cross-listing anything, or have a larger quantity of an item, that you are not listing it twice. This will prevent having to cancel.

If you have more questions about the order details, or are unsure of what action is best to take, I recommend calling Ebay to be absolutely certain before taking the next step. (Ebay Customer Service Phone Number) 1-(866)-540-3229
