Are courses are for the birds?
I know this may be a controversial topic, but keep in mind that these are just my personal opinions on courses. I only speak from experience that I’ve gained thus far and try only to convey the best help that I can to my readers. Hopefully some of these points will help you on your blogging journey as they have helped me.
With just a little bit of patience and some hard work, you can have yourself a successful blog that didn’t require shelling out hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars on regurgitated information called courses.

The World is Your Oyster
Like, literally. And you should definitely be using it as much as humanly possible. There is a world of information that is highly valuable, from reputable sources, for FREE. All you have to do is go out and find it.
Really though, there is SO many blogs, podcasts, YouTube videos, the list goes on. Finding the best ones will of course take time, and time is money, essentially. However, by spending your valued time researching different people’s opinions on the matter, (such as this post), will allow you to gain valuable insight that only can be understood from your perspective.
Google is a big one. We all know this to be true. But do we all use it at its greatest extent? Probably not. It couldn’t be any closer to you at any given time. It’s most likely in either sitting in your hands at the moment, or perhaps on your desk, in your pocket, etc. Nearby, nonetheless.
I’ve heard a lot of people get worked up about not being able to find the secret sauce to whatever they’re trying to create, make, or learn. In this day and age though, it quite literally couldn’t be any easier. Finding the information can be challenging, but that’s part of the effort that it takes to create a rewarding and successful business.
“In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later.” -Harold Geneen
Gaining experience is something that I’m sure most everyone can agree is the most time consuming of all. Although the most time consuming, it is by far the greatest reward giving. You can only do better next time, if you figure out what you did wrong the first time. And unless you find some bomb courses that come with a coach or teacher for the entire way, you better start figuring the flukes out on your own. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
There are podcasts on audible, iheartradio, etc, that you can listen to while driving, to teach you a few other tips and tricks. I also like to find YouTube videos and just leave them on nearby while I’m working on something, so that I can get two important things done at once. Just remember to pay attention to what you’re doing, and also to what you’re listening to, and repeat it or replay it if that helps it sink in.

Blogging is the long game…at least that’s what I keep seeing everywhere. There is no “quick-fix” they say. It’s easy to believe, especially when it takes months and possibly years to get your name out there and noticed. You can expedite this a couple ways, though.
Asking your close friends and family to pitch in where they can, like popping your site up on their social media, or telling their co-workers to check it out, is probably the easiest freebie you can get. Check out this post on how I find ways to work around not having social media myself.
There are all sorts of community-based bloggers that want to share their information through their own eyes, and that can be a different form of soaking up experiences as well. Everyone goes about their own business in their own way, and learning how another person runs theirs, can give you the tip or trick you need to improve your own flaws.
Check out the site:reddit.com on Google to see threads (conversations) through which people chat among one another about the topic that you type in. This can help in the sense that you will see opinions from both sides of the topic weighing in, and how to best go about fixing a problem you may be facing, instead of purchasing a course you may not actually need.
Looking at The Topic From a Different Perspective
As with any form of debate, looking at something from the other side is always helpful. I’m sure you’ve heard a lot that you need to “spend money to make money,” and at times, maybe that can be true. Depending on what you apply the saying to, it can be interpreted that you do, in fact, need to buy a course to further your blogging career.
Or, “invest in yourself,” (I’m pretty certain I’ve said this in previous posts as well). Investing in yourself though, doesn’t have to be by using your well-earned funds as a resource. Use your time, and through that time spent, will be hours or days of gained knowledge and information that will stay with you for years. Now that’s an investment.
If you really want to go hard at it though, and blog your way to success as fast as possible, I’m sure there’s a few great courses out there that can help minimize the time to get you there. The catch is that you have to actually listen though.
Keep Your Expenses Low
You have to dedicate the time to absorbing all of the course material, and checking off the tasks that they ask you to do. I’m not someone that can do that 100%, (as in, I get distracted easily), and I know a lot of others are the same.
I love checklists! But for example, I tried purchasing one course, and only one. I will not spend my hard earned cash on any others again, as I feel as though if I just would have dug a little deeper, I could have found the information myself. Sure, it would have taken some more time, but I would have definitely felt better keeping that extra $200 bucks in my pocket.
The thing is, if you want to spend the extra cash to use on a course, that’s totally up to you! I’ve tried it, and didn’t like it, but that’s just me. I like to keep the cost of my expenses as low as possible, and I’d prefer to invest in myself in some other less pricey ways.
Keeping your expenses low should always be a priority when beginning any sort of venture, and I hope this article helped you decide if purchasing a course is the best route to take or not for your own journey.
