Why I Made Less Profit in My 2nd Year of Reselling

Hi there everyone! I hope you are all doing peachy keen today. I know I am. Despite the fact that I’ve been doing some reflection as of late, and have been realizing that I’ve made substantially less profit in my reselling career in the 2nd go around. Yes, less! Not more.

Today I’d like to cover a few points that explain why that is, and why that may not always be the case, but that it is for some folks, (such as myself), and that’s totally normal and okay.

Here’s a few topics that we’ll be covering!

  • Why I made less in my 2nd year
  • Why the profit doesn’t always matter
  • Why I’m still going at it
  • What I see for the future

Okay, let’s get started!

Why I Made Less Profit in My 2nd Year of Reselling

Yep, that’s the cold hard truth. Life’s just not always a bowl of cherries.

Even though I worked harder, more often, and had less of a social life, I earned significantly less in my profit area.

This is due to a few reasons:

  • Started outsourcing (like a madwoman)
  • Invested a lot more back into my business, since it was obviously doing it good
  • Spent more on shipping supplies as my packages per day increased
  • Splurged on some new upgrades (such as a laptop, a new thermal printer, and a nice office chair)
  • Started spending more time on the blogging side of my business (which left me with extra expenses I hadn’t had before)
  • Purchased wholesale, bulk, and better quality or NWT items for my inventory

So, as you can see, lots of new changes were taking place.

This meant that my business was growing, which is why I decided to invest back into all of that stuff, to begin with.

Unfortunately, dipping into those profits seriously dropped my overall numbers, which kind of bummed me out a bit at the end of the year.

Why The Profit Doesn’t Always Matter

It doesn’t matter! Really though.

Yeah, I was a bit sad when I saw that my overall expenses totaled way more than the year before.

However, I also had a much bigger business because of the work and time I’d been putting in, which in turn caused me to need to outsource more, as I learned new avenues to grow and needed help on the backend of things.

I even considered hiring an in-house photographer at one point, but ultimately decided against it.

I like my home and my hermit-ness and would prefer to keep it that way as long as possible.

Not that I don’t like working with other people, it’s just that it’s been quite a while, and I really like the way I do things on my own.

Training someone takes time away from other tasks, and I’m just not ready to take that step just yet.

Why I’m Still Going at It

And yet, here I am! Still hacking away at the reselling way of life! (And loving every minute of it).

Reselling has not only provided me with a part-full time income for almost all of my career doing so, but it’s also provided me with a plethora of opportunities I’d had never dreamed of existing and has opened doors that I couldn’t have imagined walking through prior.

I really and truly appreciate the journey I’ve been on as a reseller, and have no intentions of letting up anytime soon.

What I See For The Future

Ahh, yes. The future.

What does the future of reselling look like to me? Well, that’s simple.

I plan to always be a reseller of something full-time, forever.

Sure, I’ll have to pump the brakes a bit whenever I become a mom someday, but I still plan to kick it with my kids like most mom resellers out there and figure out just making it work.

I really enjoy what I do nowadays, and wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I enjoy writing about it for you guys and am hopeful if you were in this situation as well, that you now know that it’s completely normal and to not give up.

Reselling is hard, even though most peeps don’t think so. It’s time-consuming, it’s monotonous, it’s annoying at times, but I can never see myself going back to a day job. (As I’m sure is how most of you feel as well!)

Keep pushing forward and keep being your best selves in business and in life and you’ll be sure to succeed in no time and have yourself a better year than ever before.
