Why I DELETED ALL of My Mercari Listings

7 Minute Read

You deleted ALL of your Mercari listings?? Like, all of them?

Yep, and yep. Two yeps to that I say! Just like what I went over in my post talking about revamping my Poshmark closet, (check it out here!), this ties into the same ideas and goals.

Let’s recap on how I got started with Mercari…

So, there I was, a part time Posher still working my 9-5, thinking about the different ways I would be able to grow my exposure. Of course you know by now if you’ve been following me for a while, that I’m not all about the social media craze. Oh my gosh. I just realized I’m like that old fashioned blogging girl from the 90s sitcoms. Hmm. Well, hey, 90s are back in style, so look at me go people!

After some research, I stumbled upon this strange website called Mercari. It sounded weird, but looked a lot like what I was doing over on Poshmark. Couldn’t be too hard of a transition, right?

It truly wasn’t at all. Mercari is super easy to list on, and doesn’t require the dreaded sharing such as Poshmark’s platform does. We can talk more about that in another post someday! I have lots to say!!

Mercari has gone back and forth for me on the successful train, as I can never really decide what to do with it.

I always consider it sort of a “mini eBay” since you can list practically anything but your grandmothers old socks.

This back and forth of course though, has caused some hella inconsistent sales over the time. This got rather frustrating, which is why it’s kind of just been hanging out there on the backburner for awhile now. BUT! It’s time has finally come. Let the revamp BEGIN!

Why Did I Delete EVERYTHING?!

I shall tell you why! Firstly, because I simply got tired of going through all of my old deactivated listings, and for sale items, to be sure that there were no repeats, or items that had sold on other platforms. What does “deactivated” mean you may be wondering…

“Deactivate” is an option on Mercari (and Etsy actually), that allows you to be able to kind of “turn an item off” from the rest of the world, but allows you still to see it. This is helpful when you want to keep something deactivated, that perhaps has a SKU or detail you want to refer back to in the future even if it sells.

Since I list nearly 90% of my inventory these days now on eBay however, this feature has become pretty irrelevant to me on Mercari. I can always refer back to eBay as long as it is within the last three months of sales. (After that time frame, eBay gets rid of all your past info! Which is why it’s crucial to keep track of things on your own.)

So yes, I deleted all of my remaining active listings, in fear that I may have things double listed, or things that have already been sold on there still. AND I deleted all of my “deactive” listings, because they were cluttering up my store quite a lot. This left me with ZERO listings of course. I must say, I was refreshed.

What Are Your New Plans for Mercari?

For the last several days now, I have begun cross listing over to Mercari again, from my main platform, eBay. This has already resulted in two decent sales, and I’m super excited that it’s working out so far.

For now, I will only be cross listing the available shoes that I’m selling, so that it can continue to look consistent and cohesive. (Most) of my items now have the same background and are placed in the same way with the same hanger, etc. So it makes it a lot better looking overall when someone visits your store. Presentation is key and first impression is everything. This is especially important for your brand! Don’t forget it!

Tip: Also, keep in mind that so many people that shop online, have no way of knowing you personally besides your thank you card, or your reviews. Keeping these two particular things top notch will of course present your customers with a much higher respect for your business. Then, if you’re lucky, they may even return in the future!

I’m really pleased with the changes thus far, and am excited to get some more items over there in the time to come. In my opinion, it seems more welcoming, and more professional, as opposed to just junking it up with random cheapo items. Of course this model can work if this is what you like doing, but I’m trying to take the route of working smarter, not harder.

I don’t have plans to ever hire on “in person” help, and to keep it that way, I need to find these kinds of ways to help grow my business without putting more hours in, because we all know there’s only so much time in a day!

I can’t possibly sleep less, as I usually only sleep around 6 hours as it is. (Unfortunately, I’m someone who truly loves my sleep, and so 6 hours is a bit hard for me…the hubs would give me the old eye roll on this!) HOWEVER! I literally love reselling so much, that I even dream about it sometimes. I know right, what a weirdo. Last night for example, I dreamt about how many shirts I wanted to put in a new lot that I was planning to work on today.
