What’s Your Favorite Reselling Story?

Hi everyone! Happy soon to be New Year! The upcoming new year has got me thinking and reflecting back on some of my most fondest memories in my reselling career. Today, I’d like to share one or two of those stories with you guys. A few moments in my journey thus far have really stuck out in my mind and I must say that those times and moments were some of my favorite parts of this job. It reminds me of how lucky I am to be doing what I love, how far I’ve come, and the flexibility that being a reseller allows. Perhaps this will inspire some thoughts of your own to tell a friend about your own favorite reselling story!

You Never Know What You’re Gonna Get

At first, finding the right stuff was hard. By stuff, of course, I mean inventory. I’d scour the thrift up and down the aisles for the best items around, trying to improve my store just a little at a time, day by day.

Sometimes I’d hit the jackpot, while other times I’d leave empty-handed. It just is what it is as they say.

One time though, I’m pretty certain it was more than a year ago now actually, I had one of those aforementioned moments. It’s really crazy how fast time passes us by, it feels just like yesterday.

I was in a new thrift store, just popping in to see how things were, gauging if it was worth returning in the future or not. It was one I’d seen in passing but never got the chance to go to.

Luckily, it was a winning spot! I was finding some great items, at some extremely affordable prices. But then, it got even better. Let me tell you how.

Around the time I was checking out, I was speaking with the cashier. She and I were talking about my online business since she asked why I was purchasing such a large amount of items at once.

To my luck, a kind lady ready to walk out the door overheard our conversation and asked what it was that I did exactly. I explained to her that I was a reseller and handed her one of my cards to check out my site.

*Pro Tip! ALWAYS Keep some business cards on hand for situations like these, since you never know what or who you may find!

Finding Treasures

As time’s gone on, we’ve exchanged texts about several different opportunities to meet up. It’s been a true pleasure doing business so far with this couple, and I’m really glad we had the chance to meet.

Many times she’s helped me out with fresh inventory, oftentimes having some of the coolest items I’ve come across yet. She’s even let me in on some of the best neighborhood sales, usually ones that I hadn’t previously known of, which is super beneficial to expanding my sourcing route!

One of my favorite stories as of late, is the story of the jewelry that she came across. A dear friend of hers decided to let some of her things go and reached out to her to try and resell it.

(Typically, I prefer sourcing in bulk or purchasing outright, since this provides me with the easiest way to turnover new items. A lot of times with consignment lots, keeping track of things can get a bit more confusing).

So, she reached out to me. We met up recently and she had gone over the lot with me, explaining what each piece must have been from and showing me the handwritten note describing each item’s length and such.

It was so cool! What a story this jewelry had. (And really everything has if you truly think about it). This kind little old lady had provided me contact with these items and had gone above and beyond in doing so.

She used to dress others in luxurious outfits and costumes, which would include some of this incredible jewelry. Therefore, she also had dressed the part, leaving her with this super unique lot of pieces.

Build Relationships in Your Own Story

When you build relationships, you’ll be sure to always have more ways to source new and interesting items. Be sure to keep an eye or ear out for anyone around you looking to offload some items because you never know what you may find.

At this point, I have just a few, but I hope to increase that number as time goes on with more experience and knowledge.

The more you know about reselling, the more you can profit. And that’s all our end goal, is it not?

Along the way, however, it’s been a true pleasure finding others who love the reselling realm just as much as I do and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of such an ever-growing and supportive community.

Thank YOU for being a part of that journey, too! I wish you health, success, and prosperity in the new year to come.
