Happy New Year everyone! It’s that time again already, hard to believe! But that’s the cold hard truth…and I’m here today to tell you more of it. How often have you looked upon your clothes in your closet, (or closets), and discovered that you just simply, have nothing to wear?! I mean, this is like a regular occasion for me at least. It can be a bit frustrating at times, and often overwhelming, too. Where do you start? What method do you use? What the heck should you do with it all? Today, it’s time to simply tell yourself the truth. Resellers, get ready, get set, get to cleaning out your closet!!
Only Time Can Tell
Time passes us by in unimaginable ways. It gets faster each year as our perception gets smaller, and it’s quite the bummer if I do say so myself.
Time, brings more decisions, more lifestyle changes, more career changes, etc. These can all lead you to adapting to a “New Year, New You” mentality shift, therefore leaving your previous closet in shambles.
Whenever you browse through your sad, simple closet again, keep in mind that you not only used to love, adore, and cherish all those things, but each did in fact bring you some kind of joy at some point in time…or they wouldn’t have been there, to begin with.
I have a hard time letting go of things, particularly around my home. I’ve somehow formed this strange attachment to absolutely EVERYTHING, and may I add, it gets just a smidge annoying at times.
To minimize your decision-making, I recommend this method my mom and sister swear by, (although I have a hard time doing it, you know, cause of that attachment thing).
Method Number One: Start all of your hangers out in the same direction. Each and every time you decide to wear a new item from that batch, simply turn the hanger around. If the hanger is still turned around at the end of a 3 month period, (this is their preference since it starts a new season, but feel free to choose your own amount of time!), it’s time to decide on donating or reselling the item in question.
Quality Over Quantity
As with many cases in life, this can be applied to your closet cleanup as well. You may have second guesses. You may have attachments to some things. Or maybe, you may decide that you’ve just had enough and are going to dump everything all out on the floor. Why not, right?
I’ve since discovered after years of closet churning, that sometimes a big mess is needed to get rid of the mess in your mind. If you see it there, (just like brain dumping in a journal), you’re more likely to know it’s an issue that needs attending.
That’s why I personally suggest trying out the “dump everything” method. I mean, do you really even know what all you have? My guess is that’s a big NO. We try so hard to keep up with the Jones’ or the girls at school or the moms on TV, that we end up having all of these items we may have thought looked beautiful on the hanger, but didn’t fit quite right when we put it on.
Then, those items get kept for eons, just waiting for their turn in the spotlight, only to get shoved to the back of the line again. No fun for them, eh?
Method Number Two: Dump EVERYTHING, (yes, even those mismatched sock drawers), onto your floor. Go through each item one at a time, TRY IT ON, because yes, it may not fit in real life like it does in your head. Thanks, hormone changes. Pick out your top items that you absolutely love and have worn in the recent past. Return those beauties to their rightful (spacious) home in your closet.
Why Am I Writing a Closet Cleanup Article as a Resell Blogger?
Good question. If you’ve had too much turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, crescent rolls, cookies, pies, and other delicious things over the past few weeks or months like me, you’ll probably feel best staying home and sourcing from that near to you closet instead of heading out to the cold wintery mix of people and snow flurries.
One of the best things about being a reseller, (in my opinion), is that we get to stay home (if desired!), and sell all the things!
Even if you have a certain niche that works best for you, you could probably find some local peeps in your area that may be looking for that exact Calvin Klein knit sweater or Steve Madden moto boots.
For local sales, I recommend checking out OfferUp or Facebook Marketplace. These can come in quite handy when you’re looking to offload some extra clothing or household items and make a few extra bucks after all of that holiday spending.
Maximize your profits by sourcing the easiest and most accessible way. From your own home! Ask around to neighbors that are doing the same, they’d probably love the chance to set it on their porch for you instead of trucking through the snow to the nearest thrift store.
Reselling is truly a magical career field to be in. Help yourself and help others revitalize the lost treasures in your closet. Refresh your stale items by supporting new sellers on the web by shopping from your home and enjoying those last few months of hot cocoa by the fire.
Now, get to cleaning! (And then shop…just a little).
