Should You Be Reselling On Several Platforms? (2022 Update)

Hey, fellow sellers across the web! Time is flying by and sales are picking up as school and college are right around the corner! Check out today’s post below to hear about why or why not you may want to start cross-listing to other platforms.

I’ve Sold On Several Platforms in The Past…Here’s What I’ve Learned.

So throughout the last few years, I’ve had my fair share of dabbling back and forth into other platforms as a reseller. At first, more was better, but I didn’t want to jump the gun, so I tried mastering one at a time before moving on to the next. At one point, I was on 6 different platforms at once! Cray.

Then, I started taking a different approach as some other things in life took away some of my time for doing such. In the beginning, I started noticing a gradual uptick in sales, since I was focusing all of my efforts on growing just one platform.

As time went by, those sales started to even out, and actually decline! I was surprised, seeing that everyone says “the more you list, the more you sell.”

This year, I’ve decided to dive back into listing on several platforms again, and I’d like to tell you my reasons as to why.

Problems That Arose With One Platform

When you’re listing heavy on one platform, you’re going to need A LOT more inventory. This, in turn, is going to cost you A LOT more in that expenses column when it comes down to tax season. This may work for some that have enough expenses set aside to do so, or also if you have enough space to store all of your growing inventory.

My biggest problem continues to be space. No matter what my sales are like year over year, I continue to run out of space to store everything. This year, it’s not so much my listed inventory that’s taking up space, but my unlisted inventory that I’ve stockpiled from yard sales the last few months.

So, not only am I constantly running into a space issue, but also a time issue.

It takes about the same amount of time to list more on one platform, as it does to cross-list on several platforms. This means, that if you’re cross-listings on several platforms, you’re going to save on your expenses since you’re technically listing fewer items per day.

Why I’m Slowly Getting Back Into Cross-Listing

As I slowly ramp up my old stores with new cross-listings, I remember why I started out like this in the first place.

Each platform has its own unique abilities to share different pieces of your reselling puzzle, and each serves a better purpose than the other. Some platforms are better suited for certain items, and some are better used as a social app.

Finding what works best for you and your business is essential to gaining more traction in your stores, leading to potentially a higher sell-through rate and more sales year-round.

Get to know each one and do your research, so that you can determine which platforms would work best for what you currently have available.

Then get to cross-listing! You’ll be surprised how fast doing this can turn things around and create more sales out of stale inventory!
