Sharing, You Know it All Too Well
That’s right peeps. I’m calling it. It’s time to toss in the towel for Poshmark and me. Our relationship has unfortunately met its end. (For now at least). Sharing has been a big part of this decision, but there’s a whole lot more to my reasoning as well.

So, Poshmark. Ahh yes. The platform that takes up all of that free time you’re not already using for sourcing, steaming, washing, photographing, attending to customer service, packaging, shipping, and driving to the post office. How do they take up your free time you may be asking? Sharing, of course! More about that below.
It’s also a little frustrating when you finally have the new updates under your belt, and then they sneak out another one when you’re not looking! This led to some confusion and annoyance when trying to work with the app.
*Pro Tip! If you have a lot of packages or want to save a little time, check out this link to the USPS recurring automatic pickup! You can set your schedule to whichever days you’d like to have your packages picked up at your residence. The pickup will occur at your regularly scheduled mail delivery time. This has saved me SO much time and lugging around bags of packages. Thank you, postal workers!!!
What is Sharing?
If you’re new to reselling or simply selling things out of your closet, I think Poshmark is great to start out on. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a super simple platform and is *mostly* user-friendly. I say mostly because there’s definitely room for improvement. This is the platform that I got started on, and it was easy and pain-free…that is until I got going with a few hundred listings!
Sharing is simply this. There is a little arrow button on each listing in your “closet.” By tapping on this button, you “refresh” your item, leading new potential customers to see it in their feed.
Having a “Poshmark Closet” is unique in its own way. Poshmark lets you “share” your items at your convenience, which supposedly pushes or “boosts” your listing to the top of the feed. This is a really nice FREE way of gaining more exposure, unlike other platforms that make you pay for it.
However, after I got up to a lot of listings, this started taking up too much of my time, which in turn also, costs money. I always had pretty good success when I tried to share my entire closet at least 4 times per day. This wasn’t too time-consuming until my inventory started gaining momentum.
And of course, I wanted more inventory! More listings equals more sales.
So, I’d increase my listings every day, building this up to an eventual 1500+ item closet. After I hit about 1,000 listings, I sought out some help. I decided to outsource my sharing to a VA (virtual assistant), because I was just unable to spend hours hitting the same button over and over again 4 times a day. I had a lot of other tasks to do, work and non-work related, that this was pulling time and energy from.

Mentally, it was draining. I look at mental health a lot differently than I used to. The more I’ve learned about it, the more I realize that this is a vital part of running my business smoothly and successfully. I felt like a robot that was stuck on repeat. This was not my idea of running a growing business and surely wasn’t seemingly the best use of my creative time.
But Wait, Didn’t I Just REVAMP My Closet?
Yep. Sure did. It was a good idea at the time. I wanted very much to be able to continue selling on multiple platforms. This is something I’ve gotten used to over the 2+ years of being a reseller. Sometimes you’re going to find that certain things work better for you, and others that you thought would be great, just aren’t making the cut. Like I’ve said before, trial and error are really your best friends in this job, as you will have to see what works best for you. Refer a friend on Poshmark for up to $50.
Unfortunately, as my eBay store has been growing, it’s just not feasible to continue to divide my time between so many of them. eBay has been pulling its own weight now for several months, continually proving itself as long as I keep uploading new, fresh listings.
This led me to really sit down and consider what is working best (for me), and what I needed to get rid of to save myself some time and money. I was spending a lot of time and effort making sure I would have items taken down from other platforms so that they wouldn’t double sell. Then I was cross-listing like a crazy woman which also took hours of my time per week. Here I am trying to save seconds and minutes elsewhere when I was wasting hours on something like that.
Not only was this sucking my time away, but also my profits. I usually try to reinvest a lot of my profits back into my business, to keep it growing year over year. I was outsourcing my sharing to a VA like I stated previously, and this ended up costing more than I was selling by the time I decided to let her go. It was just not logical when I looked at it from a business standpoint.
Let’s End On a Good Note!
Poshmark is really great in some aspects. It is a fabulous platform for beginners, and in my opinion, for luxury items as well. They authenticate anything sold over $500 for free through their warehouse, which I think is a major bonus if this is your niche.
Since they’re still a pretty new company, they’re always looking to improve their platform and try out new things.
This platform is especially nice if you enjoy the social aspect of online selling. They have a very social and friendly community, where you can make new acquaintances and keep up with fellow “Poshers” if you so choose. Earn $10 when you sign up for Poshmark! Use code: ROOTEDDRAWERS
You can “share” others’ listings as well, and play sharing games or join share groups. A lot of people even meet up for “Posh n’ Sips” outside of the platform IRL. Pretty cool!
It’s always nice to meet new friends that have the same interest and business plans as your own, and this is something that Poshmark really excels in. I am so incredibly grateful for the success I’ve had there thus far, but for now, it’s time to say goodbye for a little while.
Let me know your thoughts and opinions on Poshmark and what you feel is best about sharing and not sharing!
