ATTN Resellers: A Cluttered Space is A Cluttered Mind.

Hello, my favorite internet reselling friends! Have you become overwhelmed with the amount of pure “stuff” lying around? Have you begun tripping over random objects and are getting stressed about the lack of organization in your space? One more thing…do you love the space you’re in? Because in reality, you’re most likely spending more time in that space in question than in your bed. Bummer, I know. That’s why today’s post is all about how having a cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind.

Old Adages and Clutter

A long time ago, when I was a little girl, my grandmother would always tell me this phrase over and over again. I’ve mentioned it before in a post past, but it’s always worth touching on again as it rings true more now than ever before.

I miss this woman very much. She was right about a lot of things, as well as this short phrase that plays on repeat in my head every time I get a little displaced in my space.

It’s so easy to become engulfed in what we do that we forget the importance of keeping those things we do organized and lovely to be around.

“When you love what you have, you have everything you need.”

Once you start peeling back the layers of your space and find that not everything is necessary, you start to realize that less is most definitely more.

Realize You Have All You Need in Your Space

When you’re overhauling your space, like I did recently, it lets you see the massive difference just a little bit of organization makes. (Okay, and maybe just a few cute new plants).

It helps you to push through the annoying times of the day and get to the end with more ease. You don’t need all the things to make your business a success, you just need to make all those things work for you.

When you work hard and are nice to people, it pays off in the end…at least that’s what my newest addition to motivational signs tells me. *shrugs*

For all the years I’ve been reselling and blogging about it, I never realized until now that I need to create a special place to do that in.

Of course, you don’t need to do this. It is by no means a necessity. I’m simply saying that by creating that special place, you will be able to work with much more flow than ever before.

What is Flow, Anyway?

Flow State: Flow is a state of mind in which a person becomes fully immersed in an activity.

Being in flow can be achieved by first finding a skill that requires both some level of skill and challenge. It can be easily obtained when you reduce outside distractions and cut multitasking down to a minimum.

Sure, we’ve probably all referred to ourselves as multitaskers at one time or another, but this isn’t always the best way to work on projects, even according to research!

Our brains simply cannot focus fully on more than one thing at a time, and to get to your maximum level of success, you’re going to have to let the multitasking part go.

How Does Flow and Clutter and Reselling Relate?

Quite simply, really. The more clutter you have lying around, the less of a flow state you can achieve, leading to an eventual loss in your reselling capabilities and potentially gained revenue.

Contend with the clutter (yes, that means putting away those returns regularly, and cleaning up after a long day’s work of taking photos).

Don’t leave stuff just lying around to be looked at all through the week. Finish the job fully and you’ll be able to breathe a little easier when you get back to it the next time knowing that everything is already where it needs to be.

I read a book recently, and this is something that stuck with me. Finish the job, every time. When you finish what you’re doing, you get that feeling of accomplishment, of a small win.

Humans thrive off of these small wins, and there’s no reason we shouldn’t be trying to implement more of them into our days. You’ll have less dust blowing around, and fewer tasks to tackle. What’s so bad about that?

So instead of leaving just a handful of items for your next photo sesh, or getting to returns and putting away the last bit of inventory next time, just take those extra few minutes and finish it today.

“This will allow that your flow state to come freely and you can then thank yourself for creating a win that can continuously be won.”

  1. Thank you for your blog posts. I’ve saved so much money by changing my promotional rate to 1% as you suggested! I’ve previously purchased from your store and was very pleased.

I’ve been dinged (I think unfairly) for a HIGH Not As Described Rate – eBay takes an extra 5%. This means eBay is taking 20% of every sale price INCLUDING 20% of SHIPPING & TAXES!
I’m doubting all the time and effort I put in to my store is worth the money I make. I’m going to research other selling platforms, especially now that there’s a software program you can rent/buy that will transform your eBay listings into the new selling platform’s listing style. Do you sell on any other platforms? Do you believe eBay is the best platform for you for any specific reason?
I respect your opinion, so thanks for allowing me to ask!
I appreciate the time & effort you put into helping others succeed. I wish there were more people like you- the world would be a much kinder place!

    • Hey there Kimberly! Thanks so much for stopping by and being a reader!

That is so wonderful to hear! Thank you for the awesome feedback! I’m delighted to have you as a customer as well! Please message me on the platform for a special discount! :)

Oh no! That’s no good. I’m so sorry to hear that! Yes, they do take a hefty amount, although I love the reach that they can get to globally as opposed to other options. Keep this in mind and your keep your chin up! It’ll turn around!

I’ve got lots of posts that go into additional detail on other platforms that are out there if you’re interested in checking them out! What is this new platform you speak of!? That sounds fantastic!

I do currently sell on Poshmark as well, just not as often as eBay. I do believe eBay is pretty awesome in itself, but each platform has its own benefits. There are so many different demographics and things to sell that I think limiting it to just one is cutting yourself short (at least until you figure out which one works best for you!).

Absolutely! Thank you so much for your kind words again, it’s been a pleasure responding as this is a true passion of mine and I’m more than happy to share any knowledge that I’ve gained on the subject thus far!

Thank you Kimberly! The reselling community is a really great one to be a part of, and you can truly learn a lot (and make a lot!) if you just stick to it and stay consistent! That is the true key to being successful as a reseller in short, in my opinion of course.

Please stop back anytime and feel free to ask more questions! I’m thrilled to be a part of your journey and wish you only the best of luck in all you do! :)

      Best,
      Shelby
