Are You Still Using the Bin System?

Lately, I’ve been rediscovering empty pockets in my home to fill with bin after bin. Don’t you love those surprise spaces?

I’m not certain it’s always the best way to manage your reselling inventory, but here I am, still using it!

Read on to find out just why I’m still using it, and what other ways I’ve adopted as well for maintaining maximum organization.

The Beginning Bin System

When I first started out on my reselling journey, I had no idea it would have the potential of getting to the level I’m at now.

It’s wonderful. And I’m loving it.

HOWEVER.

It’s legit taking over my home…still.

I’ve thought back and forth about how a storage unit might be best, or moving it all the garage, but have since done neither of those things.

I don’t want to worry about adding another expense, and I surely don’t feel like tripping over all of my husband’s things in the garage. It’s pure chaos out there.

At first, I’d just lay some things on our spare bed to take pics, and fold them nicely into a small basket nearby.

Then, after I started ramping things up, more and more bins were needed to fill my growing inventory needs.

I found myself stacking bin on top of bin on top of bin…crossing my fingers that they wouldn’t topple over.

After a while, the hubs built me some shelves, and this helped immensely.

Why I Am Now Using Other Forms of Storage

Today, I still use bins…shelve(s) full, actually.

But, I have also started sourcing some new inventory in bulk, which has led me to needing a lot more space for especially heavier items.

Now that it’s getting into the colder months as well, I’ve been picking up some more thick sweaters, coats, and boots.

These take up substantially more space, something that I’m lacking.

Therefore, I’ve decided to purchase a few old coat racks from a friend, to hang the bulkier sweaters on.

Bonus! There’s even a nice little rack on top of them, in which I use to store some of the bulkier boots on.

Bins are excellent forms of storage for your inventory, if you make sure to manage them properly.

(It’s a lot easier to search through a few racks of clothes than it is to search through endless shelves of bins if something goes missing…)

Unfortunately when things are moved around a lot, this can happen. We’re only human.

I try to minimize that the best I can, by using a simple SKU system that I set in place when I still only had a handful of bins.

What’s your thoughts on the bin system? Do you use one or are you planning to?

Let’s talk about it in the comment section, so that we can learn from one another and be better resellers overall!

Happy sorting!
