Hey everyone! This is a topic that often comes to mind when I’m at my busiest and most stressed. How in the heck am I supposed to keep a tidy home when my whole business is to work out of it? Let’s get into how to keep the house clean when working from home.

Plan, Create, Thrive
When you work from home all day, all week long, there’s really no actual break. Sure, you can definitely schedule those in, but keep in mind that they may not always happen.
It can be frustrating sometimes, I have to admit. You have a set plan for the day, then during all of that everything comes unraveled and nothing goes as planned. Everything’s a mess. Now we have to figure out how to keep the house clean among everything else!
I have good news for you though.
I’ve finally conquered how to keep a tidy house, meals made, and even schedule in time for myself to enjoy the finer things of life that give me some mental clarity. Let me share those with you now.

Conquering the Work From Home Day
Let’s face it, working from home is something the whole world probably used to strive for…. until it was actually the whole world’s reality. Things have changed a lot over the past few years, and I have to say that I’ve definitely made some pretty impactful changes myself.
I no longer stress about the little things, (okay…maybe sometimes). And I definitely no longer give any effort to things that are out of my control. (As in, the weather, the news, and other things that my dad likes to debate with me about. Sorry, dad! Love you!)
My point is, all of this extra energy exerted into things that I can’t control. It just puts me further and further away from my personal, relationship, financial, and lifetime goals. If I keep focusing on how everyone else lives their lives, then when will I ever have enough time to really plan and thrive in my own? Much less figuring out how to keep the house clean.
Conquering the work-from-home day was no easy task, and I’m not going to go as far as saying I’ve mastered it just yet…although I think I’ve gotten pretty close. I could go on for days about these points, but we’re here to talk about cleaning specifically, so let’s get into it, shall we?!
Cleaning Around Your Work From Home Career
Cleaning in my opinion is not the most fun part of my day, as I’m sure is how most of you feel as well. Or perhaps you’re like my mom and sister, that just love the heck out of it and do it for a pick-me-up.
Don’t get me wrong, cleaning is definitely rewarding, but getting started is never an easy task for me. It takes stamina, strength, and skills to get it done fully, and it can be very time-consuming! (Which we seem to lack more and more these days!)
I like to break things up. If I can fit in sweeping the upstairs before I do my shipping, and then the downstairs before a shower, later on, that’s fine by me. Or perhaps I’ll get some dishes done while chatting with my parents during the day. Remember we want to focus on how to keep the house clean, add it in where you can.
Either way, batch out your chores and make them a priority around your other tasks. If you have a jam-packed schedule like myself, then you’ll need to plan these things the best you can to be sure you’re fitting them all in.
Block off 15 minutes to mow a section of your lawn. Then 30 minutes for the backyard tomorrow! Water your plants between calls and dust your counters during wait times. Whatever you can fit in, don’t delay. The more you can continue to find those pockets, the less you’ll find yourself stressing at the end of the day with a full list of chores that you still haven’t gotten done!
Making More Time For You
Batching/blocking, whatever you want to call it, has worked the best for me during my busiest of days. Sure, it’s not easy to just throw yourself into this type of schedule, but over time, it can help you create time to do more of the things you love, instead of just the things you have to do. (Like cleaning!)
Nowadays, I’m able to spend more time taking a weekly yoga class, meeting with a friend now and then, and seeing my parents more often. I’m able to take my dogs on daily or twice daily walks, as well as make actual meals for myself instead of eating protein bars all day long.
Reward yourself after you’ve accomplished batching your schedule and take a breather at a salon or a coffee shop where you snag a bagel every now and then that brings you the most joy. Make time for you and your work-from-home vibes will thrive!
