Hey wizards and wizardettes of the online community! Today, I’m taking it back. Wayyy back. Okay, maybe not that far back, but far enough. You’re probably not interested in what’s going on behind the scenes, but today I’d like to put myself out there and tell you all about it. A couple weeks ago, I started watching Sex and the City. I think it’s good I waited until 30. It’s great. It got me thinking, too…how much different things are now than in the 90s and early 2000s with technology, social media, and the grand gestures of getting into the nitty-gritty on the World Wide Web. The growth available to us now is quite amazing actually. However, I’m pretty old-fashioned when it comes to the digital side of my business, so I relate to Carrie Bradshaw just a smidge more than I thought I would as a writer. Not to mention, I too, enjoy a good cocktail now and then. Cheers!

How I Gained Growth Without Social Media
Social media…it’s not all that old. But from a different perspective, it’s as ancient as time itself. We just live in a more high-tech version of it, really.
From day one of my journey, I wasn’t all about being all over the net. Of course, feelings and perspectives have changed along the way.
At first, I wanted to keep things low-key. Which was totally possible before I thought about joining in on the blogging world. (It’s pretty awesome here might I add, I’m hopeful you feel the same)!
That brought in some new challenges, new roads to turn down, and new leaves to turn over. It made me see social in a different light…from a business perspective. So, I got to researching, like any good blogger would do.
Turns out that it can be pretty beneficial to your business, or for any reason really that you want to grow your following or exposure.
Did you know?? – According to this website, 97% of blogs are using social media for added exposure of their content. This was written just a few weeks ago on January 4, 2022. People. NINETY-SEVEN PERCENT. Now excuse me while I go ugly cry about my lack of social status.
The reach you can gain by promoting your blog on any kind of social media is MASSIVE. The numbers are endless. The demographics are there in sight. And they can all be yours at the cheap cost of just 97% of your time! Didn’t see that one coming, did you?
Why I’m Still Okay With Slow Growth
Although I have just one measly social connection, I like to think of it more like a search engine than a social media account. (Which by the way if you didn’t already know, Pinterest can be highly beneficial to use instead of all others combined, exactly because of this search engine aspect).
Pins have a half-life that far extends beyond any regular old Facebook or Instagram post, and don’t even get me started on Twitter.
What’s a half-life? Hey Google, can you define what a half-life is please?
“The half-life of a social media post is simply the point at which your post has received 50% of all the attention it’s going to get – likes, comments, shares, etc.”
Let me just put these in perspective for you real quick: Pinterest comes in as the winner at 4 months and counting, while Twitter on the other hand gives you a teeny tiny amount of time frame as small as 18 minutes or LESS.
Sure, it’s nice to have exposure, it’s nice to gain a new reach. But if you may have already forgotten, I’m a reseller that started a blog about how much I love reselling…SO, I’ve always looked at extra socials like extra platforms…are they really necessary to gain true growth?
I’ve been on this journey overall for a little over 3 years now. While loving every minute of it, (97.5% of the time), it’s taught me one major thing…
You DON’T need social media to gain growth.
Let me say it again for the people in the back.

What I Choose to Do INSTEAD of Supporting the Social Community
Way back when I was a teeny bopper who grew up in the stage of the newest cellular devices with Snake and flip keyboards. I truly feel like my generation had the best of both worlds since we got to experience *just a little* social media while also experiencing what it was like to actually go to the playground, you know, just because.
Today, everyone, everywhere, for everything, is surrounded by social media hits, likes, dislikes, subscribers, followers, notifications, and the like.
And frankly, I’m fed up with it.
It bothered me before I began my business, and it bothers me now.
Running a business (of any size) takes focus, determination, and some serious attention to your customers. They’re the reason you’re here, after all, right?
So, here’s my logic. You’ll like it, it’s simple and sweet. (Unless you like sour…can’t help you there).
Why not spend all that time you’re on social, on your customers instead? I guess it’s the waitress in me speaking, but I really enjoy practicing great customer service. It’s what I love most about what I do.
I enjoy interacting with everyone, finding out what they like and don’t like about my business, and listening to their suggestions on how to improve it.
If I spent all that time reaching new people, I’d be spending less time on the ones that are already supporting this old-fashioned growth.
Peace of Mind is Magical
I know this post is getting a little longer than previous ones, so I’d like to wrap it up by saying one more thing.
Having peace of mind is most definitely my favorite part of my day. I can comfortably say that I’ve finally gotten to a place with a good schedule, a great plan, and most importantly, an even more amazing mindset.
And to be honest, I really don’t think I could have gotten to that point if I was still focusing on countless notifications from endless platforms and socials along the way.
I value most my mental and physical health, so this year I’ve focused on putting those first in my life. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again my friends, by taking care of yourself, you can take better care of your business, which in the end will allow your business will take care of you.
